Summary

  • Many atoms don't exist just on their own, they form chemical bonds with other atoms! A molecule of H2O An H2O molecule — two hydrogen atoms bonded with one oxygen atom. Atoms that are chemically bonded are very close together!

  • When two or more atoms are bonded together, they are known as a molecule. Ice, water and steam. The bottom rows shows the differences in their H2O molecules Ice, water and steam are all made up of H2O molecules.

  • Many solids, liquids and gases are made up of molecules! A molecule of oxygen (O2) Oxygen gas is made up of many oxygen molecules (each molecule is two oxygen atoms bonded together)

  • How chemical bonds work is a huge subject — the subject of chemistry!
